Dear President Trump,
My name is Crystal Lashelle Lax, a disabled American woman and citizen who still believes in hard work, free enterprise, and the right to build a better future. I am writing because many American families, including my own, are suffering from rising costs, homelessness, violence, lack of economic opportunity, and division in this country.
I grew up hearing presidents speak about creating jobs, supporting entrepreneurship, and helping Americans become self-sufficient. Today, many citizens feel forgotten. Small business grants, startup funding, and real economic opportunities seem harder to access for natural-born Americans, especially for African Americans and women of color trying to start businesses and provide for their families.
I ask: why are hardworking Americans struggling to survive while rent, medicine, and basic living expenses continue to rise far beyond wages?
Elderly people are returning to work in their 70s and 80s just to survive. Families are becoming homeless. Drug addiction and trafficking are destroying communities across America.
My own family has suffered greatly. My son, Antoine Jermaine Lax, was killed, and my daughter, Dominique Sandra Marie Lax, has been missing since March 10, 2026 from Henderson Detention Jail Center, Nevada.
These experiences have left deep pain in my family and have increased my concern about violence, racism, and the lack of protection for vulnerable Americans.
Mr. President, Americans of every race want many of the same things: safe communities, affordable housing, fair wages, equal opportunity, access to healthcare, and the ability to work and care for their families with dignity. Many Black Americans, including myself, respected your message about business and economic success and believed you would fight for opportunity for all Americans.
I respectfully ask that more attention be placed on creating jobs, supporting small businesses, fighting homelessness, addressing racism and violence, lowering the cost of living, and helping American citizens rebuild stable lives here at home.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Respectfully,
Crystal Lashelle Lax
