On September 4th, 2025, my beloved son Antoine Jermaine Lax was cruelly murdered. A white man, Jeremy Davidson, shot Antoine multiple times in the back within the confines of his hotel room at Intown Suites, located at 12010 Kuykendahl Rd, Houston, Texas.
Antoine left behind three sons need to be care for financial, college trust for all three sons and the family of Antoine Lax.
This devastating incident has not only left a lasting scar on my family but also revealed glaring systemic injustices.
Hotels and other establishments often attempt to hush tragic incidents like these, concerned more with their reputations than the lives tarnished.
This should not be the norm. Families of murder victims deserve not only justice but also financial compensation to help them navigate through the aftermath of such tragedies.
A state-sponsored compensation program could provide families with the support they need to cover funeral costs, the family ongoing monthly expenses because the murder victims was financially responsible sole bread winner for family, all financial compensation should be paid by the murder, therapy, and other expenses that arise in the wake of losing a loved one.
Moreover, this tragedy is a stark reminder of the embedded racial injustices prevalent in our society.
My son, an unarmed black man, became a victim of a heinous crime, and his murderer managed to evade immediate accountability, residing in a county jail for months before any apparent legal recourse.
Supporting a Murder Victims' Family Compensation Program is essential for healing broken families, delivering justice, and fostering a safer, more equitable community. Programs of this nature should be pursued aggressively by Congress and other legislative bodies to prevent systemic failures and ensure every life is valued equally.
Furthermore, as we confront the rising tide of inflation and living costs, it is vital to re-evaluate the minimum wage.
Currently, $16 per hour is insufficient to ensure a decent living standard for hardworking individuals. It's time for Congress to listen to their constituents' needs and raise the minimum wage to $25 per hour, with a progressive path to $50 per hour.
This increase would guarantee that all workers can afford the basic necessities and live with dignity.
By signing this petition, you join the movement for justice, compensation for victims' families, and a fair living wage.
Let's demand meaningful change and build a more equitable society today.
